Evil conscience is unbelief

Heb 10:1 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. ... Now the question is "Are you still conscious of sin?"

Heb 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.

The next question is... Are you still offering the blood of bulls and goats every year?

    • Nancy Tanner No need God took care of that by his shed blood at Calvary....

Heb 10:9 then He said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD." He takes away the first that He may establish the second.

That's the will of God... that Jesus came to take away the Old Covenant of the Law and establish the New Covenant of Grace. Why?

Heb 10:10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

Remember in verse 3... there is a reminder of sins every year in the Old Covenant because the blood of bulls and goats cannot remove sins, it only covered for one year. But the blood of Christ completely removed sins once of all. That's the reason why the change of Covenant.

    • Sam Ruff The truth is that GOD does not deal with us according to our sin anymore, because it was all dealt with on the cross. JESUS took ALL punishment for sin...ALL sin has been forgiven through the cross and the blood of JESUS.

Heb 10:12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

Yes... it is like Sam said all our sins had been dealt with on the cross. So sin is longer an issue. Praise be to God!

Heb 10:15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, 16 "THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR HEARTS, AND IN THEIR MINDS I WILL WRITE THEM," 17 then He adds, "THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE."

Here is the key point that the Holy Spirit wants to witness to us... that the Covenant has changed and in this New Covenant that our sins... God remember no more!

    • Carol L Robinson And I think that people look at sin and think only of past sin, but it's ALL sin even those that have not happened yet.

Heb 10:18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. ... Once for all only!

Heb 10:19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which Heconsecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God,

Now comes the core of Hebrews chapter 10... Heb 10:22 [let us] draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an [evil conscience] and our bodies washed with pure water.

It says [let us]... which means it is our part. And what do you think is an [evil conscience]?

I am sure many will say an [evil conscience] is just the same as sin conscience. Indeed it is true however it is more than just our wrong thoughts and acts... or even sickness and lack.

1Jn 3:12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because [his works were evil] and his brother's righteous.

Why is Cain's works considered evil and why is his brother's (Abel) righteous?

Gen 4:2 Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

I think you probably guessed where I'm getting to... Cain's work were evil not because he killed his brother but his offer to God as stated in 1Jn 3:12. Because he offered his works, his laboring to God and that is evil conscience. And his brother offered a blood scarify which is a righteous conscience.

Therefore... Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled with a righteous conscience of the finished work in Christ.

One important point that needs clarification on Hebrews 10 is...

Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

Many believers actually read these verses with fear thinking that they may lose their salvation if they sin willfully or turn away from God. It is definitely not so. Let me put it in context...

First of all the book of Hebrews was written to the Hebrews, the Jews and not to the church. For verse 26... if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth... is saying if the Jews remand in unbelief after knowing the Truth, there is no more sacrifice for sins, not even by the blood of bulls and goats like the old days.

      Heb 3:7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: "TODAY, IF YOU WILL HEAR HIS VOICE, 8 DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS IN THE REBELLION, IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS, 9 WHERE YOUR FATHERS TESTED ME, TRIED ME, AND SAW MY WORKS FORTY YEARS. 10 THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THAT GENERATION, AND SAID, 'THEY ALWAYS GO ASTRAY IN THEIR HEART, AND THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN MY WAYS.' 11 SO I SWORE IN MY WRATH, 'THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.' " 12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;

Heb 10:38 NOW THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; BUT IF ANYONE DRAWS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM." 39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

If you believed in my previous post... verse 38 should not be a problem to you anymore. In the whole context of Hebrews 10... God is not concern with our thoughts and acts of sin anymore for He said THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE. But God is concern with our evil conscience, our consciousness of works just like His people in the wilderness for forty years cannot enter into the promised land.

It Is Finished! Do you believe or do you still think there are works to be done to be finished? That's unbelief! Shalom, shalom.

    • Carol L Robinson Yes sir Pang, the blood of Christ is trampled on NOT by acts of sin which is a symptom, but by think the sacrifice is not sufficient and require pentence or works by us.
